System requirements

What your system needs before installing Nuclos – Java, a database and a modern browser.

Java

Nuclos requires an installed Java Development Kit (JDK) matching your operating system architecture (64-bit).

Recommended: Java 11 (LTS) – Oracle Java or OpenJDK.
Minimum: Java 8 (required since Nuclos 4.22).
Java 17 is supported – see Java versions (DE).

Nuclos is compatible with OpenJDK – no Java license costs apply.

Database

Nuclos needs a relational database for persistent storage:

PostgreSQL (recommended) – the installer can set it up for you. See PostgreSQL (DE).
Oracle (version 11+) – JDBC driver separate for licensing reasons. See Oracle (DE).
Others (MS SQL Server, DB2, Sybase) can be used as an existing database.

For a quick trial the embedded H2 database is enough – no database server required.

Clients

Nuclos ships with three front-ends – all connect to the same server:

Rich Client (Java desktop app, started via the Launcher).
Web Client – runs in any modern browser, no install.
App – the mobile Nuclos app for iOS and Android; its UI is generated metadata-driven from the Nuclet.

Operating system & permissions

Nuclos runs on Windows, Linux and macOS.

Setting up a system service or bundling PostgreSQL requires administrator rights. Without them you can still install Nuclos – just without service/DB setup.
